RAR Brewing

Location: Cambridge
Prices: Good value
Takeaway: Enormous unique beer selection
Dog Friendly: No
Have Food: Yes
Boasting an enormous brew list (a whopping 13 pages), you can’t go wrong at this establishment. There is something for everyone, from sour to spicy to hoppy to milkshake (don’t worry, there’s some normies thrown in the mix too.) Along with fantastic grub, this is certainly a place you can keep going back to with something new to try each time.
RaR has a couple different locations, including the Taproom, Chessie Burger, Chessie’s Wharf, LabRaRtory, and The Dive Club. All of these locations are within a block of each other except Chessie’s Wharf which is in Annapolis on 609 Melvin Ave.
The Dive Club is a unique dining and cocktail experience with a nautical voyage type of theme. This bar is super cool if you’re into fun themed drinks and atmosphere. Chessie Burger is, in their own terms, ” An insurance office turned nostalgic 80’s baby taproom & kitchen based on a bunch of bad dreams.” The LabRaRtory is a space dedicated to creating unique and off the wall experimental cocktails.
All in all, this company has plenty to offer for everyone in your group! Visiting here is a guaranteed unique experience.

Lone Oak Farm Brewing Company

Location: Olney
Prices: A little steep
Takeaway: Good views, unique atmosphere
Dog Friendly: Yes, outside
Have Food: Yes, a kitchen on site along with rotating food trucks
This brewery is operated on a farm providing wonderful views and a cozy vibe. The farm boasts over 28 acres of land providing endless country sights and opportunity for relaxation with a brew or two.
Tours are available on the first Saturday of every month but must be booked in advance. Head to this website for more details.
In addition to their beautiful atmosphere, the “farm bites” menu offers a nice selection of pizza and shareables for when you need a crunch with your sips. I recommend the charcuterie bag, which includes aged white cheddar, Italian sopressata, crackers, mustard and fig spread. Yum!
Along with these small bites the establishment hosts rotating food trucks as well. Check out the link here to see their truck schedule, as well as fun events and live music.
An awesome part about this place is the ability to rent tents and fire pits! This is such a cool, unique detail that really sets Lone Oak apart from the others. Prices for tents range from $133-$159 for a little less than 2 hours. For more information, follow this link. The price includes service to your tent so you don’t have to leave your spot to get more drinks or order food.
Renting one of these tents is a solid idea for the cooler months, as they are heated! There’s also fans running in the summer months as well. This is a great romantic date night idea or just a fun way to spend time with some friends in a more private space.
Sapwood Cellars Brewery

Location: Columbia
Prices: Fair
Takeaway: Great atmosphere, great tap selection
Dog Friendly: Yes, on patio
Have Food: Rotating food trucks, but plan to start serving food this year (2024)
Sapwood has been presented with an Untappd community award for having one of the highest number of award winning beers in the entire country! Now, how could you pass up this place with a reputation like that?
There is also free trivia nights every Tuesday with a chance to win prizes!
For now, Sapwood does not offer their own kitchen menu but plans to change in this upcoming year {2024). Despite this, there are scheduled food trucks throughout the months as well as small snacks available. The taproom also provides local delivery menus for you to order out to other local restaurants if you so choose!
During football season, this brewery offers happy hour discounts from 1-5 pm every Sunday. No better place to watch your favorite team!
Some of my favorite brews from here are Front Porch Swing, a refreshing pale ale with peach tea; Flip Flap, a pale ale with coconut and vanilla bean; and the smuzi berry pie a la mode, which is a smoothie sour ale with blueberry and blackberry puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla soft serve… YUM!

Burley Oak Brewing Company
Location: Berlin
Prices: Fair
Takeaway: Fun Flavors
Dog Friendly: No
Have Food: Yes! Kitchen runs from 12-7pm Wed-Sun.
With 20+ options on draft, this brewery has something for everyone to enjoy! Burley Oak is close to downtown Berlin, which is full of unique, quaint shops to explore. A great place to make a day trip out of! This brewery boasts an array of different styles so everyone in your group is bound to find something they like. Along with fantastic brews, look out for themed event nights and tours available every Saturday.
Burley Oak is close to Ocean City, making it a great place to visit on vacation if you need a break from basking in the sun on the beach. Nothing like a nice cold draft beer on a hot day, and Burley has plenty of options. I recommend trying their Aboriginal Gangster IPA and the Sea Heathen Pilsner, which is a collab with another Maryland brewery, Dark Seas.

Final Words
The Maryland state is fortunate to have so many great breweries around and this list is only some of the gold! I highly recommend checking out as many of these as you are able.
Some honorable mentions without outdoor seating are Cushwa Brewing, Heavy Seas, Brookeville Beer Farm, Crooked Crab Brewery, and Black Flag Brewing Co.
What are some of your favorite establishments from the area? Have you tried any of what I’ve mentioned?
Let me know in the comments!
Happy Sippin’!
